The Surrogacy
Process
“As a first time surrogate, I can't imagine going through this with a larger agency. The support I've had from Jenna is next level. I always had my questions answered, and knew she was just a call or text away. I was always checked in on and never felt alone!”
Application & Onboarding
You submit an application, create your profile, undergo initial background checks, medical record retrieval, and receive your OB/GYN approval to carry a surrogacy pregnancy.
Matching & Benefits
We present you with intended parent profiles. We never rush this step. If you choose to meet and agree it's a great fit, a Tentative Match Agreement is signed and your personalized compensation package is finalized.
Medical & Legal Clearance
You will undergo comprehensive health evaluations, bloodwork, and psychological evaluations. You will then work with your own reproductive attorney, paid for by the intended parents, to review and sign the surrogacy agreement.
Embryo Transfer
You will undergo a strict regimen of medications to prepare your body for pregnancy, followed by the embryo transfer at your intended parents' fertility clinic.
Pregnancy
You will receive prenatal care with your selected care provider, communicate with your intended parents based on your shared preferences, and receive continuous emotional support from our agency and your journey expert.
Birth
You deliver the baby, and the intended parents welcome their child into the world. Parentage orders are finalized, and everyone celebrates this incredible milestone!
Post Birth & The Fourth Trimester
You celebrate the incredible gift you just gave! You will receive robust postpartum resources, continued psychological support, and guidance from our experienced doula team to ensure a smooth recovery.
A Step-by-Step Guide for Surrogates
There’s no one-size-fits-all way to do surrogacy, so we’ve built a process that balances the medical, legal, and human sides of it. Each of the seven steps below follows established guidelines and what our founder, Jenna, learned as a two-time surrogate. We’re a boutique agency, which means you’re supported by people who know your story, from your first call through your fourth-trimester recovery.
Building Your Dream Team
Surrogacy is a team effort, and no one person should carry every part of it. Each member of your team has a clear role at a different step: The Surrogacy Co guides you from application through recovery, your OB/GYN approves and cares for your pregnancy, your own attorney protects your interests before any medical procedure begins, your counselor supports you emotionally, and the intended parents' fertility clinic handles final medical clearance and the embryo transfer. Knowing who does what, and when, means you always know who to turn to.

-
You will never be pressured into a match. We are methodical and considerate in matching, and you move forward only when it feels right for you.
-
No. Living close can make appointments and birth logistics easier, but a match with intended parents who live farther away can still be a great one if the overall fit feels right. We work with surrogates and intended parents nationwide and handle the logistics.
-
No. Legal contracts signed before the pregnancy make the intended parents the baby's legal parents from birth. As a gestational carrier, you also have no genetic connection to the baby.
-
Gestational carrier agreements are legally binding contracts that outline the rights and responsibilities of the surrogate (and her spouse/partner) and the intended parents. You have your own independent reproductive attorney, paid for by the intended parents, and all parties must agree to the terms before any medical procedures begin.
-
The baby goes home with the intended parents, and legal steps are taken to finalize their parental rights. Your family has the chance to meet the baby, and you continue to receive postpartum support throughout your recovery.
-
Like any pregnancy, surrogacy carries medical risks. Thorough medical screening and regular prenatal care help reduce them. Emotional challenges can also come up, which is why psychological support is available throughout your journey.
