The Surrogacy Process: Key Steps

The surrogacy process involves several logistical and emotional steps. We support you deeply through each one of them.

Initial Consultation
We conduct a Zoom or in-person meeting to explain the process, create your estimated cost sheet, address your concerns, and recommend the program that best fits your journey.
Agency Onboarding
You will share your story by creating a profile , provide proof of funds, and complete a background check and a psychological evaluation.
Matching
We meticulously review profiles, facilitate meet-and-greets, and guide you to a Tentative Match Agreement with your ideal surrogate mother.
Medical & Legal Clearance
Your surrogate will complete comprehensive health and psychological evaluations. eproductive attorneys will then draft and finalize your gestational surrogacy agreement.
Funding & Insurance
We ensure proper insurance coverage is in place and guide you in safely managing funds through an escrow account.
Embryo Transfer & Pregnancy
Following medical preparation by your fertility clinic, the embryo transfer takes place. Throughout the pregnancy, your surrogate will receive top-tier prenatal care and support.
Birth & The Fourth Trimester
Your baby is placed into your loving arms, parentage orders are finalized, and you celebrate this incredible milestone!

Deep Dive: The Matching & Consultation Process

Finding the right surrogate is the most important step of this journey. We dedicate significant time and care to ensure a harmonious partnership, and we never rush it.

Your Profile Creation: We help you craft a detailed profile to share with pre-screened, background-checked surrogates.
Compatibility Assessment: We review the desires and needs of both parties to find an aligned, compatible match based on shared values and mutual comfort.
The Meet & Greet: We facilitate an introductory meeting (virtual or in-person) with your potential surrogate and her partner to establish a connection before signing a match agreement.

Agency Programs and Fees

The Surrogacy Co. offers two levels of service. During your consultation, we'll recommend the program that fits your circumstances and goals.

Standard Program: $40,000

$40,000.00

Designed for: intended parents located in the United States whose embryos are in, or are being created in, the U.S., and whose circumstances and expectations are standard per ASRM guidelines and industry norms.

Includes: professional end-to-end facilitation, matching, screening, and coordination.

Payment schedule:

$5,000 retainer when you sign the Agency Agreement
$15,000 service fee when you sign a Match Agreement with your surrogate
$20,000 coordination fee at medical clearance

Premier Program: $50,000

$0.00

Designed for: all international intended parents, and U.S. intended parents with specific or unique surrogate preferences, or circumstances that make matching and coordination more extensive or time-consuming.

Includes everything in Standard, plus:

Founder-level case management
A higher-touch experience
Broader availability, beyond standard office hours

Payment schedule:

If, during your journey, your circumstances or expectations move beyond what is considered standard, we'll talk with you openly about your options, which may include moving to the Premier Program.

Because every journey is unique, costs can vary based on clinic locations, insurance, and medical specifics. The total cost of a surrogacy journey typically ranges from $125,000 to $225,000+.

Surrogates set their own base compensation, starting at $50,000 for first-time surrogates. Her benefits package also includes monthly allowances ($250/month before pregnancy and $500/month during pregnancy), medication and transfer fees, lost wages, and fees for specific circumstances such as multiples or a c-section.
IVF, embryo transfer, prenatal care, and delivery.
Drafting contracts, establishing parentage rights, and necessary court proceedings (paid directly to attorneys).
Travel, contingent insurance, newborn insurance, or additional embryo transfers.

Yes, we are based in Lexington, KY but we happily work with intended parents nationwide.
Surrogacy costs can range from $125,000 to $225,000+, depending on various factors such as surrogate compensation, surrogate lost wages, medical expenses, and legal fees.
The Standard Program ($40,000) is designed for U.S.-based intended parents with standard circumstances and expectations. If you already have frozen embryos with your fertility clinic, the entire surrogacy process can take 16 to 22 months. This includes matching with a surrogate mother, legal preparations, medical procedures, and the pregnancy itself.

No. Legal contracts give you, as the intended parents, full parental rights. The surrogate and her spouse/partner have no legal claim to the baby, and gestational surrogates have no genetic connection to the baby they carry.
Some insurance plans may cover parts of the surrogacy process, but many intended parents need to purchase additional insurance to cover the surrogate’s medical expenses. Most expenses such as surrogate mother compensation and benefits are funded by intended parents.
A facilitation agreement outlines our services and clarifies expectations between you and The Surrogacy Co. In addition, legal contracts between the surrogate and the intended parents outline the rights and responsibilities of both parties. Each party's attorney reviews these contracts, and they are signed before any medical procedures begin.
You can be as involved as you and your surrogate are comfortable with. This is discussed during matching and becomes part of the match agreement. Many intended parents attend medical appointments, are present at the birth, and stay in regular communication throughout the journey.
After the birth, we follow best-practice guidelines for a smooth transition of your baby into your loving arms. Legal steps are taken to finalize your parental rights.
